THOMAS YOUNG:
When the Englishman, Thomas Young, heard about the Rosetta Stone, he took it as a challenge to decipher it, and managed to decipher the demotic script, the Egyptian cursive. He counted the Es in the greek script, then looked for the most used symbol and counted it. He found that it was the E, and managed to translate the rest based off the words it appeared in.
